Midwest Regional History
1997
The Midwest Regional was held for the first time on March 6, 7, and 8, 1997 in
the gym at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, IL. At the time there
were only 2 other regional events in the country. The Motorola Midwest
Regional was the first regional event not held on the East Coast. 38 teams
competed in the first year.
2000
In 2000, the regional moved to a new home at the Welsh-Ryan Arena on the campus
of Northwestern University. 52 teams competed in the new venue that year.
2005
In 2005, the Midwest Regional once again changed venues. The event was hosted
at the Pavilion on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago. 37
competed at the new venue.
